Image: Supplied Cape Town firefighters were battling a blaze above Simon’s Town on Monday. The fire has so far not threatened homes and is burning near a popular hiking route called Admiral’s Kloof. It was first reported in the early hours of Monday morning in the Red Hill area. “We have 10 firefighting appliances and about 50 firefighters on scene, being assisted by Table Mountain National Park and a crew from the navy,” said Cape Town fire and rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse. ....

The City of Cape Town s Fire and Rescue Services are being assisted by helicopters. âThe call was received at approximately 5.55am, of mountain slopes alight,â said Jermaine Carelse., the Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson. âWe currently have 10 firefighting appliances and about 50 firefighters on scene, being assisted by Table Mountain National Park and a crew from the Navy. âTwo Oryx helicopters were requested from Ysterplaat Air Force base to assist with water bombing. The fire area has been divided into three divisions to make operations more manageable.â ....

Cape Town Fire: Now helicopters water bomb mountain slopes Firefighters spent hours battling the latest Cape Town fire that flared up during the early hours of Monday on the slopes near Simon s Town. Cape Town’s fire and rescue service has managed to get the fire in the Simons Town area under control and is currently monitoring the situation for any potential flare ups. Carelse said ten fire engines and 50 fire fighters had desponded to the latest scene of the fire to battle the blazes, assisted by Table Mountain National Park and a crew from the South African Navy. “Two Oryx helicopters were requested from Ysterplaat Air Force base to assist with water bombing. The choppers water bombed the area for about two hours and we started downscaling until after 1pm. We currently still have two fire engines at the scene to watch for any flare ups,” he said. ....
