Experts discuss prospects of renewable energy generation July 18, 2021 LAHORE : Experts discussed the prospects of grid integration and locational study conducted by for energy sector of Pakistan, and major challenges for revised version of Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) 2030. During a webinar held by the World Bank, Oliver Knight, senior energy specialist, the World Bank, provided insights on studies conducted by the World Bank on “Variable Renewable Energy Integration and Planning” and “Variable Renewable Energy Locational Study.” Based on the outputs of both reports, Mr Oliver mentioned that the most optimum capacity expansion pathway for Pakistan was through increased expansion of solar and wind capacity as it would decrease the utilisation of the existing generation facilities which were no longer competitive. Call for tapping renewable energy sector’s potential Lahore April 25, 2021 Islamabad : Pakistan has a huge potential in renewable energy sector and its tapping could play a significant role in achieving environmental targets. This was declared by experts during a webinar held on ‘Low carbon recovery in Pakistan-green financing strategies in post-COVID-19 scenario,’ by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). Energy Finance Analyst at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), Simon Nicholas, said green recovery initiatives were not only about environmental concerns but also about rescuing the power sector of Pakistan, which was under great strain. The meeting was held at the Institute of Policy Studies to discuss IPS study on barriers surrounding distributed generation with IPS executive president Khalid Rahman in the chair. The event was moderated by former water and power secretary Mirza Hamid Hasan and addressed by Asad Mehmood of the National Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority, Aftab Ahmad Awan of the Planning Commission, Neshmiya A Khan, Hamza Butt and Maryam Arshad of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Zeeshan Ashfaq of the World Wind Energy Association Pakistan (WWEA), Mushtaq Gaadi of the Quaid-i-Azam University, and Dr Azhar Lashari and Haneea Isaad of the Rural Development Policy Institute (RDPI). ....
