Astronauts have to spend months floating 250 miles (400 km) up in Earth’s orbit. And while their schedule is mostly occupied by conducting scientific research and doing experiments in space, they also get some free time as well. Sometimes they’re looking back at our beautiful planet, and other times they’re playing badminton.

Washington DC-based 0-G Launch joined forces with the Canary Islands Aeronautical and Aerospace Cluster (CAAC) to bring space weightlessness to Earth. As a result, passengers will be able to take zero-gravity or parabolic flights and float just like an astronaut would in space.

An invention developed by UofL's astrosurgery team made its first trip to space for testing in weightlessness as a payload aboard a suborbital space flight by Virgin Galactic. The invention, a surgical fluid management system, flew aboard Virgin Galactic's VSS Unity SpaceShipTwo from Spaceport America in New Mexico in May, prior to Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space flight on July 11.
