Strict measures against those responsible for littering are lacking, exacerbating the problem

Residents from different localities have pointed out issues such as broken and inaccessible footpaths, noting that despite regular follow-ups, the issues persist without resolution.

The residents pointed out that the combustion of waste releases harmful pollutants into the air, including particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and others. This apart, inhaling the toxic fumes from burning garbage can cause a variety of health problems such as respiratory infections, asthma, and other respiratory diseases.

In the 2023-2024 budget, stormwater drains secured the second-highest allocation of Rs 1,643.72 crore, including over Rs 70 crore for maintenance and Rs 15 crore for emergency monsoon works.
