Awareness programmes mark National Legal Services Day

Dimapur, Nov. 9 (EMN): Along with the rest of the country, District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) across Nagaland observed National Legal Services Day on November 9 by organising sensitisation programme on legal rights.  In Mokokchung, MDLSA organised a programme at District Bar Room with the panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers from Fazl Ali College Legal Cell and Mokokchung Law College along with Ungma Village Legal Cell and front office PLV and members from E-court and Bar Association. Bendangsenla, member from Legal metrology and Consumer Redressal Forum and resource person, spoke on Consumer Act and encouraged the gathering to be aware of the clauses of the act. In Wokha, panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers have organised programmes at various levels. Legal awareness programmes were organised at Government High School in Longsa village, Green Valley School, Government Higher Secondary School in Wozhuro sub-division and for prisoners at district Jail. In Phek, a legal awareness campaign was conducted by distributing legal pamphlets on Lok Adalat and Consumer Protection Act 1986 to the public of Phek town. Four schools in Zunheboto declared tobacco-free

Dimapur, Oct. 19 (EMN): Zunheboto district nodal officer under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Dr. Esther Ngullie, has declared four schools as tobacco-free. The declaration to this effect was made during a meeting of DLCC held in the conference hall of the District Hospital, Zunheboto, on October 18. Dr. Esther Ngullie has appreciated the teachers’ in-charge for their hard work and cooperation in restricting the use of tobacco within the school premises. She also acknowledged the administration and the police department for playing an important role in the achievements of NTCP, statedan update from the office of the chief medical officer (CMO), Zunheboto. She has requested the officials present in the meeting to disseminate about the smoke-free campaign and implement stern action against those offenders. She further highlighted on the activities carried out by NTCP where 24 schools and 6 villages have been declared as tobacco-free under Zunheboto district. She stated the district was fortunate to have received Smokerlyzer machine, which checks the lung condition and shows the amount of carbon monoxide level of the smokers.
