You’re being encouraged to dust off the hiking boots this weekend in support of the Beth Donovan Hospice.
The annual Hike for Hospice is being held virtually for the second straight year, and organizers are asking residents to walk, run, or hike to help raise funds to offset the group’s operational costs.
Executive Director Sue Walker says residents can take part by hiking at the Ferguson Forest Centre, while following public health guidelines, or just by strolling through your neighborhood. ....

Snowmobilers Being Warned By Police To Stick To Designated Trails

Police are warning snowmobilers following some prohibited activity at the Ferguson Forest Centre.
Grenville County OPP says they’ve received complaints from the public that riders have been driving through the Centre’s arboretum and trails, causing damage in some areas, and ripping seedlings of newly planted trees from the ground.
Vice President for the Ferguson Forest Centre Corporation Wes Herring says there’s been a lack of regard on the part of snowmobilers for the property’s multi-use trails.
“People can’t see those seedlings and when they run their snowmobile or have activity across our fields, they’re damaging the seedlings that are growing,” Herring said. “Generally, the interaction between the public and snowmobilers is putting people at risk.” ....

Don Cameron, first mayor of North Grenville, dies at 80

Flags at the North Grenville Municipal Centre have been lowered to half-mast to honour the passing of Don Cameron, the first mayor of the amalgamated municipality of North Grenville.
Cameron died peacefully at his home in Kemptville, aged 80, on Sunday.

“There is no doubt Mr. Cameron’s legacy looms large,” said Mayor Nancy Peckford.
“We join in mourning the loss of this leader who demonstrated tremendous dedication and commitment, and who helped to shape what our community is today.”

New toboggan hill opens in Kemptville; families asked to self-police site or risk closure

KEMPTVILLE, ONT.
A new toboggan hill opened up in Kemptville this week, offering residents the chance to stay close to home instead of hitting up other hills farther away.
Now, it s up to the community to help it remain open by following all COVID-19 protocols in place, including social distancing.
North Grenville Mayor Nancy Peckford was at the site on Saturday with her 8-year-old son.
We had a real need for a sledding hill in town as lots of our families have been going elsewhere, Peckford said, noting residents would travel to Ottawa or as far as Limerick Forest to go tobogganing. ....

North Grenville Opens Sledding Hill For Local Families To Enjoy

A new sledding hill is being offered to residents in North Grenville.
The municipality announced the addition of sledding hill Thursday, in collaboration with the Ferguson Forest Centre.
Mayor Nancy Peckford says council is happy with the addition of an outdoor activity people can enjoy without leaving town.
“The need for safe, outdoor recreational activities for families is even greater during the pandemic, and we thank Ferguson Forest Centre for offering such a wonderful space,” Peckford said.
The hill has rules posted which follow Ontario health guidelines and experts agree tobogganing is a safe and health family oriented outdoor activity. ....
