The Floyd County Fair in Charles city was disrupted early and late Wednesday by the severe weather that rolled through. And, while yesterday’s rains were welcome, Lesley Mehmen with ISU Extension’s Floyd County office talked with KCHA/KCZE prior to the stormy weather about the need for precipitation to help area crops, which has been spotty through most of the growing season.
The Floyd County Fair continues today with activities including more performances by the All-Star Stunt Dogs, plus Eric Michaels Magic and Illusions, and Figure 8 Racing.
The Fair Board has announced that tonight’s (07.15)Jesse Allen country music concert has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond their control. The band’s bus broke down in St. Louis and they will not be able to get a rental vehicle or transportation in time to perform tonight in Charles City.

(ABC 6 News) - Crops laid flat and trees were down across northern Iowa Thursday after a tornado swept through the area Wednesday night.
Corn in some areas was completely flattened and a few trees were knocked over. The National Weather Service (NWS) visited Floyd County Thursday to survey the damage and their experts said things there were not nearly as bad as they could have been. Basically we found a tornado that had an eleven-mile track. The tornado was mostly EF0 which on the scale from 0 to 5 is the lowest scale tornado, Dan Baumgardt, a meteorologist for NWS said.

FAfter a disruptive last two years, the Floyd County Fair looks for a bigger and better return to “business as usual” in 2021.
The public wasn’t allowed at the fair last year due to COVID-19 safety concerns and in late May 2019, the fairgrounds just west of Charles City was hit by a tornado. Fair Board President-Elect Kelsey Uetz says rebuilding their facilities to be among the tops across the state is almost complete.
