Greater Accra Regional Minister to seek legal action to stop construction on waterways

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, says his outfit will immediately secure an injunction from the court on all structures under construction on waterways in the capital.
He said this when he visited the Kpeshie Lagoon in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality where some structures had been mounted on the banks of the lagoon.
Mr. Quartey had earlier ordered the demolition of structures on waterways.
Some assemblies in Accra like the Accra Metropolitan Authority and Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly have also threatened to demolish buildings on waterways to limit the potential impact of flooding.
But Mr. Quartey has now cautioned developers engaged in such acts to refrain from it as he seeks legal redress. ....

Accra, Kumasi Selected For $240m Road Safety Fund


 
Accra and Kumasi have been selected to benefit from a $240-million fund earmarked to curb road accidents within the next six years in 30 cities in 15 countries around the world.
The project, which is an initiative of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS), is expected to prevent road traffic deaths over the six-year period spanning 2020 to 2025.
Kick-off
In a virtual ceremony to unveil the partnership between BIGRS and the government yesterday, the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA), Mr. Mohammed Adjei Sowah, said past collaborations between BIGRS and the AMA targeted at similar interventions had contributed to the reduction of road accidents in the capital city. ....
