el-Rufai's Allegation of Persecution Unfounded, Says Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described the allegation of persecution made against his administration by Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, as a mere figment of his imagination and concocted to attract cheap attention and undeserving popularity.
Jonathan, in a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Reno Omokri, said the allegation by el-Rufai that he was to be arrested in furtherance of the second term bid of the former president was untrue.
He said: âNigerians may recall that Mr. el-Rufai was on a self-imposed exile during the administration of the late great President Umar Musa YarâAdua. ....

Eleven years after his demise, former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua still has a place in the heart of his then vice president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Yar’Adua died on 5 May 2010 at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa after battling an illness that kept him away from public eyes.
Paying tribute on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of his death, Jonathan wrote: “Today, I celebrate my boss, friend, colleague and brother, President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who departed this world 11 years ago. ....

Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has said his former boss, the late President Musa Yar’Adua would always be remembered for being a peacekeeper.
Jonathan stated this in a series of tweets on Wednesday, to mark the 11th year remembrance of Yar’Adua who died in 2010 while still in office as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Yar’Adua died on May 5, 2010 at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa after battling an illness that kept him away from public eyes. He was buried on May 6 in Danmarna, Katsina State. ....

My attention has been drawn to claims by the Governor of Kaduna state, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, to the effect that he was persecuted under the administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and was pencilled down for arrest in furtherance of the second term bid of the former President.

Nothing could be further from the truth, as the facts will now bare out.
Nigerians may recall that Mr. El-Rufai was on a self imposed exile during the administration of the late great President Umar Musa Yar’adua. Mr. El-Rufai only returned to Nigeria on May 5, 2010, the very same day that President Yar’adua died. ....
