in business will be addressed with the appointment of the
Theresa Gattung Chair of Women in
Entrepreneurship

Chair, funded by leading businessperson and former head of
Telecom New Zealand, Theresa Gattung, will helm a Centre
that fosters entrepreneurial women and equips graduates with

Kiwis Give $130k To Feed Fijian Families In Need

Hundreds of Fijian children going hungry after COVID-19
decimated their families’ incomes will receive life-saving
grocery packs thanks to the generosity of Kiwis giving to
Save the Children New Zealand’s emergency
appeal.
Launched three weeks ago, New Zealanders have
contributed a massive $130,000 to the appeal to feed Fiji
with packs containing much-needed food supplies, soap,
surgical masks, nappies and sanitary pads.
So far, the
aid has already reached 165 families with around 650 more to
be reached in the next week, but Save the Children says
since launching the appeal, they have had many more requests
and the money will help feed 1800 families in ....

Safer Drinking Water Key Issue For New Zealanders

Water New Zealand says events such as the Havelock North
contamination crisis and the frequent number of boil water
notices in some parts of the country have led to drinking
water becoming identified as our number one infrastructure
issue.
Chief executive Gillian Blythe says the finding
in the Aotearoa
2050 report by Te Waihanga, Infrastructure Commission,
reflects a growing awareness of the long term
under-investment in water infrastructure.
“When
people become aware of drinking water contamination events
and they see sewage spilling into the streets and onto our
beaches, it becomes very obvious that investment in water
infrastructure has been overlooked for too ....

City Seeking Civics Education Funding

Hamilton City Council wants government funding to help
provide civics education in high schools.
At today’s
Council meeting, elected members unanimously agreed to put a
remit to the Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ) conference
next month, asking for support from the sector. Already nine
councils, including neighbouring Waikato District Council,
have backed the proposal which would see more young people
learn about how councils function.
Mayor Paula
Southgate, who proposed and led the remit, said there was
nothing to lose and everything to gain from helping young
people be better informed and more involved in their local ....

Additional COVID-19 Testing Sites Available In Wellington Region

There has been significant demand for COVID-19 testing in
the Wellington region. Yesterday there were 6999 tests
nationwide of which 2100 were taken in Wellington – five
times the number of the day before.
In the Wellington
region, testing priority is being given to individuals who
have been at a location
of interest at the specified time and individuals who
are symptomatic.
At this stage, you do not need to be
tested if you were not at a location of interest, unless you
are symptomatic.
It is critically important we are
testing those who are most at risk from COVID-19 first. ....
