The Pella girls basketball team hopes to make strides over winter break to give themselves to compete over their remaining 14 games, and there is some room for improvement to take their offense to the next level.
Early on, the Lady Dutch have improved their overall offensive production, shooting 43.6 percent from the floor this winter with most of the same roster in place from 2019-20, when they made 37.2% of their buckets.
While Pella has already improved a bit in 3-point shooting, at 29.6% this winter vs. 27.5% last year, they are doing so with two of their top shooters starting a bit cold from beyond the arc. Faith Diers and Anna VanderWaal were the top two from long-range for Pella, but both are below 20 percent from three to start this season. Head Coach Jerod Garland says he strongly believes those two will improve in that category, and that will push the offense to potentially new heights and allow them to compete with their difficult schedule remaining. ....
