Have you heard of Blue Mountains perch?

An endangered fish species
Allan Wray, Senior Land Services Officer
You have probably heard of the Macquarie Perch, but have you heard of the endangered Blue Mountains Perch?
The Blue Mountains Perch has been found to have significant genetic differences to the Macquarie Perch and could soon be classified as a separate species, rather than a variation of the species. These fish populations are only found in streams at the most eastern edge of the Central Tablelands, within the Greater Blue Mountains area. They are distinctly smaller in size, have a darker colour and sometimes mottled appearance compared to the Macquarie Perch. ....

Concerns proposed coal mine could dry up swamps in Blue Mountains

Chris Jonkers, 67, has been exploring the swamps in the Newnes Plateau in the NSW Greater Blue Mountains for as long as he can remember.
“I just find them fascinating places to visit. [From] my earliest age, I remember going to those swamps and seeing the wildflowers,” he tells
The Feed.
“They are the lifeblood of the landscape. They’re nature’s kitchen.”
Chris and Juile Jonkers are concerned that the swamps are drying up and further mining could make things worse.
The Feed
Carne West was once one of his most treasured swamps.
“It was so dense with ferns that you couldn t walk through it. It was totally waterlogged - full of butterflies and dragonflies, endangered water skinks and wildflowers.” ....

Australia's longest road tunnel proposed for Great Western Highway upgrade

Deputy Premier
Investigations are now underway to make an 11-kilometre tunnel the central component of an upgraded Great Western Highway between Katoomba and Lithgow, forming the longest road tunnel in Australia.
Deputy Premier John Barilaro said the proposed tunnel would transform the state by better connecting the Central West to the East Coast.
“We have already committed to tunnels at Blackheath and Mount Victoria – this proposal would see those tunnels joined together, creating the longest road tunnel in the country,” Mr Barilaro said.
“This is an immensely complex and ambitious plan, but we’re working hard to make it happen because we know what a difference it will make to the lives of commuters, to regional businesses who need access to Sydney and vice versa, to freight companies, to families visiting relatives and to holiday makers. ....
