EV manufacturers body SMEV on Tuesday said the added subsidies from the Maharashtra government on batteries and overall vehicles in its new EV policy will aid to the growing interest among investors and companies looking to make an entry into the manufacturing of parts for the segment. ....

The electric vehicle industry has had a lot of expectations from the Union Budget 2021-22, particularly on GST reduction, import duty reduction on lithium ion battery cells, as well as extension of the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) and Electric Vehicles (FAME) II scheme. The FAME II scheme came into effect from April 1, 2019 and the EV industry was expecting some sops to help the industry, including financing solutions to help boost the industry. While there have been no specific Budget announcements which are likely to boost the industry, the industry overall has welcomed the Union Budget ....

The SMEV had argued that since its implementation from April 1, 2019, FAME-II has been able to achieve less than 10 per cent of its target of supporting 10 lakh electric two-wheelers, five lakh three-wheelers, 55,000 four-wheelers and 7,000 buses by 2022.

NEW DELHI: FAME-II scheme, the programme meant to promote electric vehicles in India, has helped in attracting investments in the sector in the country and needs to be extended by another three to four years, according to a top official of Hero MotoCorp-backed Ather Energy.
