A deposit of Rs2,000 each to the bank accounts of farmers on Friday marked the release of the 8th installment of over Rs19,000 crore to some 9.5 crore small and marginal farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
The scheme, as launched by then interim finance minister Piyush Goyal in the Lok Sabha poll year in the 2019 interim budget of providing 3 installments of Rs2,000 each to 12 crore farm families, was delayed this time because of the Assembly polls in April.
The scheme of cash benefit of Rs6,000 per annum in 3 equal installments was brought as a counter to the Congress harping since then on a dole of Rs6,000 a month to 20% of the poorest poor. ....

Mumbai: Age is never a bar to work on the things we always wish for. Bollywood veteran actress Waheeda Rehman is proving that dreams don’t have any expiry date as she is leaving no stone unturned to fulfill her bucket list.
The 83-year-old actress recently went snorkeling with her daughter Kashvi Rekhi in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Kashvi gave us a sneak peek of it as she posted their picture on Instagram. Delhi, Maharashtra, 8 other states account for 80% of new Covid-19 cases


Ten states Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Kerala have shown a rise in the COVID-19 daily cases accounting for80.80 per centof the new infections reported in a day, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
India s daily new cases continue to rise. A totalof 1,61,736 new cases were registered in a span of 24 hours.
Maharashtra has reported the highest daily new cases at 51,751. It is followed by Uttar Pradesh with 13,604 while Chhattisgarh reported 13,576 new cases.
India s total active caseload has reached 12,64,698 which now comprises 9.24 per cent of the country s total infections. A net increase of 63,689 cases recorded in the total active caseload in a span of 24 hours. ....
