Editorial: Targeted testing in Davao City

THE city government of Davao is implementing a targeted testing strategy in a bid to detecct Covid-19 cases and prevent a clustering of cases.
Recently, the city government issued two executive orders (EO) strengthening the testing strategies of Davao City.
On March 26, 2021, Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio issued EO 18, heightening the surveillance and response of Covid-19 cases in the city.
Under EO 18, the city will put up swabbing corners in all district health centers to swab those with influenza-like illness (ILI). If the person with ILI tests positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus causing the Covid-19, their close contacts will also be swabbed for testing if they develop signs and symptoms of ILI or Covid-19. ....

Davao barangay anti-terrorism exercise set this week

THE Davao City government will be conducting a second citywide community exercise against terrorism after receiving reports of lawless elements targeting barangay captains supportive of government initiatives for rebel returnees.
Task Force (TF) Davao Commander Colonel Consolito Yecla said in a radio interview that the anti-terrorism drive under the “Culture of Security” will be conducted within this week and will test the extent of cooperation of the Dabawenyos in reporting persons doing suspicious activities.
This time, the community exercise will be conducted at the barangay level.
Yecla said the anti-terrorism exercise came after reports that the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People s Army (CPP-NPA) Central Committee has ordered the deployment of Special Partisan Units (Sparu) in Davao City to liquidate uniformed personnel. ....

Sta. Ana Police Station commander relieved for 'failure to supervise' personnel

The commander of Sta. Ana Police Station was axed after a surprise inspection at the station showed that most of its personnel were not going on duty.
Brig. Gen. Leo Francisco, Manila Police District (MPD) director, said Lt. Col. Christopher Luyun was the second commander to be relieved for “failure to supervise his men.” Lt. Col. Robert Sales, Malate Police Station commander, was sacked for the same reason on December 12.
Francisco said he only saw around 15 police officers on duty at Sta. Ana Police Station when he conducted a surprise inspection over the weekend. He said there should have been at least 45 cops on duty at the time of the inspection. ....
