At least 24 people were killed in Mumbai on Sunday due to heavy rains. Mumbai bore the brunt of a heavy downpour with many streets turning into virtual rivers. As the situation turned critical, NDRF teams were also pressed into the service. Seventeen people have been killed and many others feared trapped under the debris after a wall collapsed in Chembur. In another incident, five people have been killed and two were injured in Vikhroli. 
Maharashtra Cabinet Minister and Anushakti Nagar MLA Nawab Malik reacted over the Chembur wall collapse incident and said that We ll take the decision to shift the people who are living in a dangerous situation to permanent settlements immediately. BMC will investigate this incident. ....

Mumbai, May 6 : In a sensational developing during lockdown, the Mumbai Anti Terrorist Squad (Nagpada Unit) has seized 7.10 kgs of radioactive Natural Uranium and arrested two persons, an official said here on Thursday.
The seized material was sent to the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre which has said in its report that it was Natural Uranium which is highly radioactive and very dangerous to human life.
Following the seizure of the Natural Uranium, estimated to be worth around Rs. 21.30 crore, the ATS has registered an offence against the accused duo under the Atomic Energy Act, 1962 and other laws, and further investigations are underway. ....

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is finding it hard to conduct its vaccination drive smoothly in some areas of the city. The response is particularly poor in
slums where the civic officials are offering freebies to people to cooperate with them in making the drive successful. At Dharavi, the
BMC is offering a soap, a Tetra Pak of juice and a water bottle to each of those coming forward for vaccination.
The G North assistant commissioner Kiran Dighavkar has set a target of vaccinating at least 1,000 slum dwellers a day, but despite offering the incentives, the centre is not able to complete its daily target. ....

According to the data, the R Central ward (Borivali, parts of Charkop) ranks first with 947 active COVID-19 cases
Even as the number of active COVID-19 cases has witnessed steep increase in the city since the second week of February, most active cases are from the Western suburban areas. Accordingly, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Vile Parle, in the western suburbs, as per the data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), top the list of active cases across the city.
More than 30 per cent of the total cases recorded across Mumbai are in the five wards of the western suburbs. ....
