The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Tobacco Control Center for its work in helping people quit smoking and spreading awareness about the dangers of tobacco.
WHO recognizes individuals or organizations in each of the six WHO Regions for their accomplishments in the area of tobacco control every year.
This recognition takes the form of the WHO Director-General Special Recognition Award and World No Tobacco Day Awards.
The HMC Tobacco Control Center, a WHO Collaborating Center, has was one of the awarded organizations from the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

Doha: With Ramadan approaching, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has urged patients with chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes, kidney failure, and heart disease to speak with their doctor before beginning a fast. 
Specialists from across the healthcare provider’s network of hospitals say it is imperative that patients with chronic conditions, particularly those who require daily medication to treat their illness, seek medical advice before making any changes to their diet and medication regimes.
Professor Abdul Badi Abou Samra, Chairman of Internal Medicine at HMC, said that diabetics who choose to fast, need to be aware of the potential health risks. He urges patients who plan to fast to talk with their doctors as early as possible before Ramadan begins, saying that while many diabetics can safely fast, modifications to diet, exercise, and ....

CNA-Q, HMC partner to offer diabetes education program

Doha: The Continuing and Professional Education department at College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) has joined hands with Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) for the sixth year to offer ‘The Fundamentals of Diabetes Education’ program. 
The latter includes tailored courses that provide HMC employees with the necessary skills and knowledge required to specialize in the field of diabetes education, and contribute to Qatar’s National Diabetes Strategy 2016-22. 
The initiative is an important step in actively responding to the diabetes health challenge in the State of Qatar.
Professionals taking part in this program will acquire a solid foundation in diabetes-care management, and will have the chance to practice and apply their knowledge in a safe environment. Furthermore, participants will be trained on how to interact with patients of all ages and from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.  ....
