Analysis: Five in epic battle for Mombasa governors race

The battle to succeed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has begun in earnest.
Five aspirants are employing various strategies to woo the more than 500,000 voters. Businessman Suleiman Shahbal, who in 2013 and 2017 elections came second to Joho, is seeking to make a third stab at the governorship in elections next year. In the last five months, he has engaged in 22 meet-the-people tours in the six sub-counties of Mombasa.
Yesterday, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nasir, Kisauni’s Ali Mbogo, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and deputy governor William Kingi also declared interest in the governor race.
Political analysts said the candidates’ financial muscle, upcountry vote support and party affiliations will determine their chances of succeeding Joho. ....

Several prominent Coast politicians who were left out in the cold after losing in the last General Election are plotting a political comeback in 2022.
Former governors John Mruttu
(pictured- Taita Taveta), Issa Timamy (Lamu) and Hussein Dado (Tana River) are among the region’s political giants who lost in the 2017 elections and are crafting a comeback.
In Mombasa, businessman Suleiman Shahbal, who has twice come second to governor Hassan Joho in the gubernatorial contest, has started preparations for the seat after he closed ranks with the governor.

A total of 225 officers (Lieutenants) of the Nigerian Army are participating for the 2021 Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examinations under strict compliance with COVID-19 protocols which is holding in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The Acting Commander, Training and Doctrine Command Nigerian Army, TRADOC NA who is also the Examination President for the Lieutenant to Captain Practical Promotion Examination, Major General Benson Akinroluyo while addressing the candidates at the headquarters 63 Brigade, Asaba, warned them against engaging in malpractices or other forms of misconduct throughout the duration of promotion examination.
