Minister for Forests, Endowments and Justice A. Indrakaran Reddy has announced that all zoological parks, wildlife sanctuaries and tiger reserves in the State would be closed for visitors from Sunday due to the surge in coronavirus cases.
The decision has been taken following an advisory issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and Central Zoo Authority to prevent the spread of coronavirus among wildlife.
Accordingly, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Chief Wildlife Warden of Telangana R. Sobha issued orders on Saturday for closure of Nehru Zoological Park here, Kakatiya Zoological Park at Warangal, Kawal and Amrabad tiger reserves, all national parks and wildlife sanctuaries in the State to visitors with immediate effect. ....

Between protecting the interests of the tigers and Chenchu Adivasis and pursuing uranium mining in Telangana state, the former has won for now. The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research, Hyderabad under the Department of Atomic Energy has decided to “shelve” the project to drill boreholes in the Amrabad Tiger Reserve to prospect for the yellowcake, a form of uranium ore. Uranium is used as the basic fuel to generate nuclear power.
In 2019, an expert panel on forests of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had recommended in-principle approval for a proposal by the Department of Atomic Energy for survey and exploration of uranium over 83 sq km in the tiger reserve. ....

Landsharks eyeing govt. colleges' real estate

Encroachments are rampant across State with the involvement of local politicians
Government junior colleges in Telangana are losing their precious resource – land, and also their very existence with landsharks and politicians eyeing them in the name of litigation and development respectively.
The latest that has come under attack is the Government Junior College (GJC) Nagarkurnool where the compound wall was demolished by the municipal officials, apparently under direction from the local politicians to accommodate street-vendors in the altered boundaries. This was done without intimating the college administration or the Board of Intermediate Education (BIE), claim the teachers and students opposing the move. ....
