Alien landholding licenses, taxes on property and stamp duty all account for the increases in total and current revenue in St Vincent and the Grenadines up to the end of April 30,2021, when compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
Finance Minister Camillo Gonsalves was responding to a question in Parliament on May 14 when he gave an update on the fiscal position of the country up to the end of the fourth month in 2021.
“Our total revenue and grants is $217.7 million this year. Last year it was $202.8 million, so total revenue and grants up 7.4 per cent. Current revenue $213 million this year as opposed to $202.1 million last year, an increase…of 5.4 per cent,” he said. ....

Buccament workers to get money

Former workers of the Buccament Resort who were never compensated when the establishment shut down almost five years, ago will receive approximately $2000 each from the government.
Finance Minister Camillo Gonsalves said on May 11 that a special warrant was signed one day earlier to authorise the payout.
The money for this ex-gratia payment was raised through the sale by auction of items left at the premises of the former resort. These items included various pieces of furniture, china, crockery, glassware, mirrors and spa equipment.
“When you take out the fees to the auctioneer, when you take out the salary for the security and other staff that helped in the auction, we raised a total of EC$732,180 from the sale of those items, and we are going to distribute that money evenly among everyone who was employed at the Buccament resort at the time of its closure,” the Finance Minister said during a presentation in Parliament last week. ....

Almost EC$118 million was approved by Members of Parliament this week to address “the most immediate humanitarian cleanup demands” caused by La Soufriere’s explosive eruption in April.
The 2021 Supplementary Estimates of St Vincent and the Grenadines totalling EC$117.9 million was passed without opposition just after midnight -on Wednesday morning, and its funding is expected to finance at least 30 distinct and immediate responses to the disaster.
“Even preliminary incomplete assessments of the damage and the loss that we have faced, are sobering estimates. Even without going to the full extent of the red zone, orange zone and up the mountains, we know that cleanup costs will exceed 38 million, we know that there is damage to over 5000 buildings exceeding 35 million. We know that at least 175 million of loss and damage has been inflicted on the agricultural sector and some estimates are as high ....
