(Kaboompics.com via Pexels) In the latest measure Ottawa has taken to support the news industry, Canadians can now find out whether their digital news subscription is eligible for a 2020 tax credit, says the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The credit was developed to encourage individual Canadians to pay for online news by offering them a 15 per cent non-refundable tax credit for any digital news subscription they buy from a qualified Canadian journalism organization (QCJO). Tax filers wishing to claim the credit on their 2020 tax returns can verify whether their digital subscription is eligible for the credit by consulting a list on the CRA site, or by contacting the provider of their news subscription, the agency said. ....
