Kottayam district on Monday reported 1,275 fresh COVID-19 cases and of this, all but 10 were caused through local transmission. The TPR for the day stood at 19.54 %.
With 286 recoveries during the day, the district currently has 18,753 active cases while 43,959 people are under surveillance.
Kottayam municipality, which reported 186 cases, continued to witness a spurt in cases, followed by Puthuppally with 53 cases. Kurichy panchayat reported 50 cases, while Changanassery , Karukachal and Chirakkadavu reported 44 cases each. ....

₹16-cr. sanctioned for reviving Kappithode

Solid, liquid waste dumped in canal
The government has sanctioned ₹16 crore for rejuvenating Kappithode, Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran has said.
Mr. Sudhakaran said although ₹18 crore had been allocated in the previous years, the work got delayed due to various reasons. He said that the canal would be rejuvenated this year with the support of everyone.
The 14.5-km canal, originating from Chungom in Alappuzha municipality, flows through Punnapra North, Punnapra South, Ambalappuzha North and Ambalappuzha South grama panchayats before emptying into the Pookaitha river. It has been reduced to drainage due to waste dumping and encroachments over the years posing a major health risk to people living in its vicinity. ....

Huge volume of water, slush, and debris dumped in houses, Collector inspects areas
Rough sea battered coastal areas of the district in the early hours of Thursday. Sea erosion was severe at Purakkad, Ambalapuzha, Ambalappuzha North, Chettikkad, Ottamassery, and Andhakaranazhi in Ambalappuzha and Cherthala taluks.
According to residents, sea started to turn rough on Wednesday night. In the following hours, strong waves lashed coastal areas dumping huge volume of water, slush, and debris in houses.
Purakkad hit
Windowpanes of several houses were broken at Purakkad and nearby areas. After water entered the houses, several families shifted to their relatives’ homes. ....
