Hubballi: Meat ban on Ambedkar Jayanti triggers controversy | Hubballi News


HUBBALLI: The government ban on sale of meat and closure of slaughtering houses on Ambedkar Jayanti, observed on Wednesday, has led to many Dalit leaders and progressive thinkers to claim that this ban was enforced from 2019.
Ban on meat sale used to be imposed on Gandhi Jayanti, Mahaveer Jayanti and other occasions earlier but not on Ambedkar Jayanti.
Dr HS Anupama, a gynecologist and writer, who has authored about a dozen books related Ambedkar’s thoughts, said that Ambedkar has written, referring ancient evidences, that when Aryans and later Brahmins gave up meat consumption after influence of Jainism, Dalits continued with the same and hence they were treated as untouchables. ....
