ISLAMABAD: Due to internal rifts in the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) over nomination of candidates for the upcoming Senate elections, Prime Minister Imran Khan is said to be in a fix and expected to make some changes to the list of party candidates.
In order to resolve grievances of the party leaders and finalise the list of candidates, the prime minister has called a parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday.
According to a list of candidates issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), 56 PTI candidates have filed their nomination papers for 21 expected seats of the ruling party. It means that 36 covering candidates have submitted their nomination papers and now it is up to the prime minister to distribute party tickets to those he deems fit for contesting the Senate elections. ....

The government has decided to recover Rs386 billion from the sugar mills responsible for an acute shortage of the commodity last year.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a recent cabinet meeting, asked Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability Mirza Shahzad Akbar to brief the cabinet about the actions taken so far on the report of a sugar commission that conducted a probe into the crisis.
The commission led by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had accused sugar mill owners of earning illegal profits worth billions of rupees through unjustified price hikes, benami transactions, tax evasion, misuse of subsidy and purchasing sugarcane off the books. ....

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf faced criticism from party cadres over awarding of Senate tickets due to which it failed to finalise the list of candidates despite Monday being the last day for the submission of nomination papers with the ECP.
Taking notice of the matter, Prime Minister Imran Khan convened an emergency meeting of the parliamentary committee on Monday.
During the meeting, Premier Imran hinted at a change in tickets and said they “will be given on merit”. ....

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Railways Tuesday informed that a ‘Train Lighting Van’ (TL-Van) was provided to Sargodha Station to ensure trains stoppage at the platform.
The TL-Van would start its functions from January 25, officials of Railways Ministry apprised the committee that met here with Moeen Wattoo in the chair. The unavailability of lights and other technical reasons were causing problem for the trains to stop at the said station, causing inconvenience to the local passengers.
The Committee approved the minutes of its previous meeting and the recommendations. The officials told the Committee members that Railways had prepared the feasibility report for the cleanliness of its areas through solid waste management companies of amount Rs256 million in its eight divisions which was not bearable by the department due to present financial cond ....
