Clear policy, rational distribution of COVID-19 vaccination urged

Islamabad:The stakeholders speaking at a webinar suggested that the Covid-19 vaccine donors to strictly monitor the distribution and administration of free doses being donated to the Pakistan government. They feared that free vaccine doses might be grabbed by the sides of those in power and sold on high prices as it was done in the case of Covid-19 free testing-kits. They urged for controlled mechanisms for the Covid-19 vaccination to benefit the needy ones and the frontline workers and aged people.
They also urged the government to first develop an inclusive and integrated COVID-19 vaccination policy, followed by a strategic action plan. Just firefighting would not serve the purpose to take care of the peoples’ healthcare and preventive needs. The federal government and the provinces have to be on the same page in this regard ....

Members on the opposition benches in the National Assembly criticised the government on Friday for hurriedly convening the session of the lower house of parliament, terming it an insult to the democratic norms.
Senior opposition leaders Ahsan Iqbal of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Syed Naveed Qamar of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said that the government was not taking the parliamentary matters seriously.
Speaker Asad Qaiser chaired the session. At the outset, Ahsan Iqbal took the floor and pointed out that the members found out late last night about the session in the morning. “Even members of the union council get the notice 72 hours prior to the meeting,” he said. ....

For the first time in our lives, we observed Eids, remaining confined to homes and practically asking relatives and friends not to come over to share the joys of the happy occasions.
For the first time, most of us offered prayers at home, even during Ramazan. For the first time we saw children away from schools/ colleges/universities, staying at home for months and months, practically taking away the joys of summer and winter vacations or holidays. ....

Senior journalist Tariq Mahmood Malik, who covered foreign affairs, died of a lung infection in Islamabad Wednesday night.
He had been hospitalised for several days and was in critical condition.Â Malik was diagnosed with COVID-19 a month ago and was taken to a hospital in Islamabad due to respiratory problems.
His last coronavirus test, however, was negative, according to his son.
The senior journalist had worked for various publications as well as ARY News, Neo TV, Samaa TV and Hum News. The journalist community has also expressed grief over his demise. ....
