At the center of it was a “very unlucky man” named Henry Schecher, according to Brittany Johnson, director of the Douglas County Historical Society.

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. This is a story of a heated land dispute, a deadly encounter involving a one-armed suspect, a murder trial, allegations of a buried gun, and ultimately, redemption.
It all played out on a small plot of Minnesota farmland in the southeast corner of Millerville Township back in 1888. ....

This Week in 1961, 60 years ago: The reorganized Alexandria City Council discussed the proposal for a new fire hall and police station. A hearing was also held on the rezoning of the south corner lot of 15th and Fillmore, the construction site of the Elks Club.
1971, 50 years ago: An Alexandria man serving in Vietnam was featured in the Sunday edition of the Minneapolis Tribune. Lt. John Martinson commands a platoon of infantry of the B Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry, 196th Brigade of the Americal Division. He is the son of the Earl Martinson’s and a graduate of Concordia College. He entered the service, attending Officer Candidate School from which he was graduated Second Lieutenant. He was assigned to Vietnam last September. His service is as an infantry soldier and his religious desires are to enter the seminary and eventually teach theology. ....
