Allianz Nigeria unveils COVID-19 cover for travellers The underwriter also said the National Insurance Commission had approved the new cover. It said in a statement on Sunday that the introduction of the product followed the announcement of the Allianz Risk Barometer 2021results which was clearly dominated by the COVID-19 risks. The risks were business interruption, COVID-19 pandemic and cyber incidents. “All the risks are strongly interlinked, demonstrating the growing vulnerabilities of our highly globalised and connected world,” it stated. Figures obtained from the Nigerian Insurers Association revealed that only 2.72 million vehicles on Nigerian roads had valid insurance covers as of February. Allianz Nigeria is planning to roll out a cyber insurance policy, since working at home raises the stakes in cyber security. Discussions with regulators are close to reaching a conclusion and the policy is likely to be available before the end of the first half of this year, Allianz Nigeria CEO Adeolu Adewumi-Zer tells The Africa Report. A risk barometer published by Allianz based on a survey of 193 Nigerian corporate respondents shows cyber incidents as the second-biggest perceived risk in 2021, second only to Covid-19. A year earlier, cyber incidents were only seen as the eighth-biggest risk. Working at home due to Covid-19 has pushed cyber risk up corporate agendas, says Adewumi-Zer, who took over in September and is the first female CEO of Allianz Nigeria. ....

In a statement, the company said that the shares have been issued and allotted in favor of Allianz Africa Holding GmbH the holding company for Allianz Nigeria. The company also said that as part of a wider restructuring of the business, Allianz Nigeria had, in December 2020, reconstituted its shareholding to make Allianz the sole investor, and further streamlined its business operations by taking the company private, now operating as Allianz Nigeria Insurance Limited. ....
