KEY PIPELINES DAMAGED BY SHELLING
Today, in the early morning of 8th May 2021, it was discovered that one of three huge diameter pipes of Siverskyi Donets Donbass (SDD) channel was damaged by heavy shelling last night. Additionally, the roof of a nearby valves building was also hit, at the same location, between Horlivka and Shumy, on the frontline accessible from the Non-Government Controlled Area (NGCA). During a damage assessment visit, this morning the Voda Donbasa (VD) repair crew identified 21 holes in the 2300 mm diameter pipe. Some have been temporarily repaired using wooden chocks, however, for some repair works, including higher up parts of the pipeline, and to repair the valve building roof, the VD team needs to bring temporary scaffolding or a “cherry picker” truck to the site. VD will now request a Window of Silence (WoS) and demining works, via the JCCC and OSCE SMM. ....

Today, 8th January 2021, water repair crews were forced to halt, due to weapons fired in their close vicinity. After receiving a Window of Silence (WoS) agreed by both sides of the conflict, yesterday, repair brigades from Voda Donbasa water company (VD) started their assessment of the damaged pipe supplying clean water to Toretsk city from Horlivka. One team from the Non-Government Controlled Area (NGCA) side had completed small repairs, however a second team, which was accompanied at the time by a heavy repair vehicle, approaching today from the Government Controlled Area (GCA) side, was stopped by small arms fire and perceived shooting of a grenade launcher, very close to the team. The incident happened close to Chigari (Leninske) village, close to Toretsk city. The workers stopped immediately and, after contacting the authorities, received additional assurances of their safety. SHELLING NEAR GOLMOVSKYI SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT
Voda Donbasu water company, in eastern Ukraine, informed the WASH Cluster of new shelling on 25th December 2020 in the close vicinity of the sewage treatment plant at Golmovskyi, located near Horlivka in the Non-Government Controlled Area (NGCA). Shelling started at 11:20 am and finished at 2:20 pm (Kyiv time).
At the wastewater treatment plant seven workers took cover in the on-site bomb shelter and heard at least two projectiles landing very close to the area of the plant.
As for earlier incidents, in May and in June 2020, there are environmental risks from this shelling: sewage from 7800 people of Golmovskiy and some people of Horlivka city is treated at Golmivskyi Wastewater Treatment Plant. Future damage could cause sewage to be released into the environment affecting water quality in the river flowing downstream towards Bakhmut city. ....
