Reports suggest the second wave is proving more lethal than the first
With the rise in the number of deaths daily due to COVID-19, Surat has become the coronavirus epicentre in Gujarat. On Tuesday, according to the State Health Department’s bulletin, 22 persons died of COVID-19 in Surat, but local officials and sources claimed the actual number was higher.
“It’s mayhem here in the city. The city has never witnessed so many deaths in the last few decades. All crematoria run by the Municipal Corporation, and burial grounds, are working round the clock,” a senior newspaper editor from Surat told ....

India is planning a ‘green city’ powered by renewable energy in every state
A concept note suggests picking either the capital city or a renowned tourist area and combining all existing schemes that promote the adoption of green energy.

Indian government wants to develop a “green city” in every state of the country, powered by renewable energy. The “green city” will mainstream environment-friendly power through solar rooftop systems on all its houses, solar parks on the city’s outskirts, waste to energy plants and electric mobility enabled public transport systems.
India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on December 3 unveiled a concept note stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi desires one city in each state to be developed as a green city that will meet all its energy requirements from renewable sources of energy. ....

Indian government plans a green city in every state

The Indian government has unveiled a concept note that envisages the creation of a green city in every state where all the power requirements are met by renewable energy.
The concept note also looks at combining all existing renewable energy programmes including ones dealing with solar street lights, rooftop solar, electric vehicles or waste to energy.
The government is hoping that this will also help promote the solar rooftop programme, which has not taken off in India.
