The country’s largest stadium is delighted with today’s resource consent decision granting the right to host up to six concerts a year as permitted activities at the 118-year old venue.
The stadium received extensive support for its application to host concerts when submissions were open to the public in March 2020. 94% of submissions to Auckland Council were in favour of the proposal and a subsequent hearing was held in November in front of three independent commissioners.
Eden Park is extending thanks to the community including neighbours, local businesses, sporting organisations and the entertainment industry for ensuring their voices were heard in the process. ....

Tributes flow for 'visionary' cricketer and administrator John F Reid

John F Reid, the accomplished left-handed batsman and later cricket administrator, has been remembered by his peers as a dependable team-mate who was a great player of spin bowling.
Reid, who played 19 tests for New Zealand – scoring 1296 runs at an average of 46.28, including six centuries – and then went on to have a career as an administrator, has been described as “classy”, a “gentleman”, a “visionary” and one of the “finest batsmen and servants of the game”.
The Black Caps have worn black arm bands on the final day of the test against Pakistan in tribute to Reid, who died on Monday, aged 64. ....

Council pays tribute to John F. Reid

Selwyn District Council has paid tribute to former New Zealand cricketer John F. Reid, who passed away yesterday (Monday 28 December 2020).
Mr Reid had been the Council’s Major Projects Property Manager since 2015, overseeing significant building projects in the district, including the development of Foster Park and the Selwyn Sports Centre.
The wooden floor sports hall at the Selwyn Sports Centre, currently under construction, was recently named the John F. Reid Courts in honour of Mr Reid’s role in sports nationally and in Selwyn.
Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton says the district was fortunate to have been served by one of the country’s best sports administrators, working on projects that will serve the community for a long time to come. ....
