Chennai, May 9 : IAS officer Gagan Singh Bedi has been appointed the new Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner, replacing G. Prakash who has held the post since 2019.
Chief Secretary V. Irai Anbu, in order, said that Bedi, a 1993 batch officer, will replace Prakash.
Chennai is battling thee Covid pandemic and Bedi will have his job cut out to contain the virus from spreading as the city has become a hotspot.
A graduate engineer in electronics and electrical communication, Bedi joined the Indian Engineering Services in 1993 and was posted with the Indian Railways, and in the same year, he got into the Indian Administrative Services (IAS) in the Tamil Nadu cadre. ....

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday appointed former Public and Rehabilitation Secretary P. Senthil Kumar as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Health and Family Welfare Department, a newly-created post.
In his place, the government has appointed D. Jagannathan, formerly the Commissioner of Disaster Management.
It also transferred Darez Ahamed, executive director of the GUIDANCE Bureau, and posted him as mission director of the National Health Mission.
In another posting, S. Uma, Additional Collector (development/ project director, district rural development agency) in Ranipet, was transferred and posted as project director, Tamil Nadu Health System Project. ....

On Saturday, the ACB sleuths, Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) officials and revenue officials visited Achampet and Hakimpet villages and are camping in Medak district to conduct a probe into the land grabbing allegations made against Etela Rajender.
The V&E officials are led by Superintendent of Police, Manohar while the revenue officials are led by Medak District Collector, S Harish and Additional Collector Ramesh.
The teams spoke to the farmers who had complained to the Telangana Chief Minister stating that their lands had been forcibly taken over by the owners of Jamuna Hatcheries. The revenue officials led by Toopran RDO Ramprakash also started an inquiry. ....
