GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Gaston County commissioners will once again discuss a proposed ordinance that would implement rules and regulations for public protests in the county.
The latest draft of the ordinance, designed to outline the county notification process for public assemblies, will be discussed at next week’s meeting of the Gaston County Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Kim Johnson, the sponsor of the latest draft of the ordinance, said the item will be discussed at the commissioners’ February 23 meeting. ....

Gaston considers new protest permit ordinance

County commissioners will pursue a markedly different mass gathering ordinance later this month from the proposal that was unveiled in January.
Commission Chairman Tom Keigher described the resolution as a big step away, from the controversial resolution proposed last month that would have imposed costly fees and a monthlong advance notice requirement for groups of 25 or more to gather or protest within the county s jurisdiction.
Keigher and Gaston County Commissioner Ronnie Worley, the ordinance s original sponsor, confirmed this week that resolution will be withdrawn when commissioners next meet on Feb. 23.

In its place, a new ordinance sponsored by Commissioner Kim Johnson will be added to the board s non-consent agenda. ....
