New Balakot City sealed after three die of COVID-19

MANSEHRA: The district administration has sealed the New Balakot City and deployed the police and health officials after three people died of coronavirus on Saturday.
“We have sealed New Balakot City after three people died of Covid-19 within a few days,” Assistant Commissioner Sardar Jawad Marwat told reporters.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan had ordered sealing of the locality after the death of the three persons and around dozen were found affected with the virus.
According to a notification issued by the district administration, Taj Muhammad died of the Covid-19 at Ayub Medical Complex Hospital, Abbottabad, Muhammad Rafique at King Abdullah Teaching Hospital, Mansehra, and Muhammad Bashir at the AMC. ....

Anti-encroachment drive: DSP, cop injured as a protester opens fire in Naran

MANSEHRA: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a cop sustained bullet injuries when one of the hoteliers and shop owners opposing an anti-encroachment drive resorted to open fire in Kaghan valley on Thursday, officials and locals said.
The sources said a group of hoteliers and shopkeepers, whose property was coming in the way of Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad road, had set tyres on fire in Naran to protest against the anti-encroachment drive.
The miscreants also stormed the Rescue 1122 station in Naran and partially damaged its two ambulances, they added.
They said that DSP, Balakot, Yaseen Janjua reached the spot to bring the situation under control when one of the protesters opened fire. ....

Water scarcity: owners of drill boring machines overcharging people

MANSEHRA: Owners of compressor drill boring machines, while taking the advantage of scarcity of potable water, have enhanced the hand pumps sinking rates from Rs600 to Rs1800 per meter.
“There is a drought-like situation here in the city and its outskirts as the underground water level dropped drastically while wells and hand pumps dried up but the drill boring machine owners tripled their sinking rates,” area resident Mohammad Arif told reporters here on Friday.
Led by Arif, a group of locals said that all three water supply schemes operated by tehsil municipal administration have stopped the water supply, leaving the entire population on the dependency of hand pumps and wells. ....
