Diarrhoea claims four lives in Sokoto, 56 hospitalised

The Commissioner for Health in Sokoto State, Dr Ali Inname, says four persons have died and 56 hospitalised as result of the outbreak of diarrhea, occasioned by water contamination in Sokoto, the state capital.
Newsmen report that the incident occurred at Helele in Sokoto North Local Government area of Sokoto metropolis.
Inname told newsmen, on Wednesday, attributed the incident to the drinking of contaminated water by people in the affected settlement, adding, however, that state government had contained the spread of the disease.
He said that the survivors had been placed on treatment at Helele and Kofar Rini Primary Healthcare Centres as well as Sokoto Specialist Hospital. ....

Strange disease kills four as 24 others hospitalized in Sokoto

The Governor said that a committee was raised with a view to investigating the disease and finding its cure and prevention.
The statement read ” the Governor of Sokoto State, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal, CFR Mutawallen Sokoto, on behalf of the government and the entire people in the state, expresses sadness and heartfelt condolences to the families and relations of our fellow citizens, who died from a sickness that has emerged in Helele Area of Sokoto Metropolis.
“It has come to the notice of the Government that the strange sickness has claimed four lives, three within the Helele Community and one while on admission in the hospital. Twenty four other people are currently receiving medical attention in different health facilities in Sokoto. ....

COVID-19: January 2021 schools resumption date in Akwa Ibom stands - Govt.

This came even as the spread of COVID-19 infection is increasing.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong in a Statement issued to journalists on Thursday after the State Executive meeting yesterday in Uyo explained that the resumption date of January 4, 2021 was to avoid a disruption in the academic calendar as the first term was due to end on January 23, 2021.
He further explained that the government has directed the Commissioner of Education to ensure that all schools adhere to the COVID-19 preventive guidelines adding that water facilities would be provided for schools which have a student population of above 1,000. ....
