Growth in loans, bond investments confirms solid backing for key areas
The first-half performance of China s banking and insurance sectors confirms that they have continuously improved the quality and efficiency of their financial services in order to better serve the real economy, said regulatory officials on Wednesday.
Real economy refers to that part of the economy which produces goods and services.
Regulators also said commercial banks and insurers succeeded in keeping the overall risks under control in the first half.

Loan curbs rein in fund overflows into realty--China Economic Net

China has made a start in reversing excessive capital flows into the real estate market, with the top banking and insurance regulator s measures to rein in funneling of business loans into property financing bearing fruit.

Property lending portfolio of lenders increased by 10.5 percent on a yearly basis by the end of April, with the growth rate hitting an eight-year low, said Liang Tao, vice-chairman of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission, at a news conference on Tuesday.

The country s top banking and insurance regulator, together with the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the People s Bank of China, took measures to prevent business loans from flowing into the real estate sector by requiring banks to strengthen borrower qualification verification, credit demand verification and the administration of intermediaries. ....

He was earlier Executive Director of the central bank, looking after the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems, the Department of Information Technology, Fintech and the Risk Monitoring Department.
His areas of expertise include exchange rate management, reserves portfolio management, public debt management, monetary operations and development, regulation and surveillance of financial markets, payment systems and IT infrastructure.
Sankar served as an IMF consultant from 2005-11 on developing government bond markets and debt management. He represented RBI on international forums like Bank for International Settlements besides various expert committees and working groups. ....
