Safety Exercise Set for Palisades Plant

COVERT, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Even though it’s destined for decommission, the need for a safety exercise at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant south of South Haven continues.
Outside local law enforcement and safety officers will participate in a biannual Offsite Response Organizations drill. According to Lieutenant Robert Kirk, Emergency Manager for Van Buren County, the Tuesday, March 9
th exercise, “is required to be performed every two years to test the ORO’s emergency response plans in regard to a nuclear power plant accident.”
Officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency will grade the exercise and disclose preliminary results during a Friday morning press briefing. ....
