How to Install Windows 10 on M1 MacBook, iMac, and Mac mini

Posted by Sanuj Bhatia on May 16, 2021 in How To, Windows 10
Apple’s M1-based Macs are really, really fast. The performance of M1 Macs will keep on improving as more and more apps are optimized for Apple Silicon. However, one of the downsides of using an M1 Mac is that they do not support Bootcamp, meaning you cannot install and dual-boot Windows on it. Thankfully, there’s a way via which you can install Windows 10 on your M1 MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, or the iMac.
Apple’s M1 chip is very different from the traditional x86 architecture-based CPUs that modern PCs, laptops, and even Intel-based Macs use. Previously, the common x86 architecture meant that it was easy to run Windows 10 on an Intel-based Mac, but that’s not the case anymore. Thankfully, there’s virtualization support on the new Apple Silicon chips. And we are going to do use just that to install Windows 10 on your M1 Mac using Parallels Desktop. ....

The Asahi Linux project has published the first progress report detailing its effort to port Linux to the Apple Silicon platform.
The lengthy blog post describes in extensive detail the challenges faced by the project in understanding how Apple’s home-grown proprietary chippery works on a fundamental level, as well as the circumventing the various non-standard quirks that limit the ability to boot third-party operating systems.
The report, written by kernel hacker and Asahi Linux co-founder Hector Martin, unfortunately doesn’t conclude with a link to a fully working Linux distro. It does, however, illustrate how widely Apple Silicon-based Macs diverge from standards you might typically see. ....

macOS 11.3 may remove Rosetta from M1 Macs in certain regions

Apple may remove Rosetta 2 from M1 Macs in certain regions with macOS 11.3.
It is unclear why and what countries will be impacted.
Rosetta, the translator that allows Intel-based apps to run on M1 Macs, may be removed from Apple Silicon-based Macs in certain regions around the world with the release of macOS Big Sur 11.3.
As reported by MacRumors, the third developer beta of macOS 11.3 contains language in the code saying that Rosetta will be removed upon installing this update and Rosetta is no longer available in this region. Applications requiring Rosetta will no longer run. The code does not explain which regions may be impacted by the change. ....

A new Zoom update supports Apple M1-based Macs

(Pocket-lint) - Zoom officially supports Apple M1-based Macs as of today.
Zoom is rolling out an update for Apple Silicon-based Macs such as the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini that will ensure they work seamlessly with Zoom.
We ve not actually had any problems with Zoom on the M1 Macs we tested (after the 16.1 update to MacOS Big Sur) but a colleague struggled with sound issues and it didn t overly drain battery life either. Obviously, that was using the Rosetta 2 code translater which Apple has developed to enable non-Apple Silicon code to run.
However, it makes sense for Zoom to offer native Apple Silicon support with the number of new Macs now out there and with more set to debut in the Spring. Zoom is offering a separate installer for Apple Silicon Macs, available at Zoom s site.  ....
