Almost $50,000 in grant funding distributed by Council | Orangeville Citizen

The Town of Orangeville approved nearly $50,000 in grant funding for community organizations in need at last Monday night’s Council meeting (April 12) and still has $33,500 to hand out.
Recipients of this year’s grants include Orangeville and District Senior Citizens Centre ($10,000), Optimist Club of Orangeville ($10,000), Orangeville Tennis Club ($16,500), Rotary Club of Orangeville ($4,000), and the Kin Club of Orangeville ($6,000).
“I’m very familiar with all these organizations, and I would just like to simply take the staff advice and make the motion that we approve this [grant finding] as written, and thank all of those organizations for the wonderful work that they do on behalf of Orangeville,” said Coun. Todd Taylor during the April 12 Council meeting. ....

The fact that tennis as a sport creates inherent physical distancing means the courts at the Orangeville Tennis Club are open for the season.
However, that doesn’t mean the Club is operating without restrictions.
There is currently no inter-club play and some programs and activities have either been cancelled or delayed this season due to the current province-wide ‘stay-at-home’ order.
Clubs in Ontario can not cross health district boundaries to play matches with other clubs in the region.
The Orangeville Club usually takes part in matches with other nearby tennis clubs. ....

Coming off a challenging yet highly successful 2020 season, the Orangeville Tennis Club is now open for registration and play in 2021. With COVID-19 delaying opening by nearly 2 months last year, OTC volunteers were eager to take advantage of some March sunshine to set up the courts early this year.
Even with the delayed start in 2020, demand for outdoor activity was strong and the Club registered 200 members for the first time, half of whom were new. Junior memberships increased 50 per cent year-over-year as the Club’s demographic continues to shift toward families and students getting into the sport. ....
