SAMBALPUR: Health and family welfare minister Naba Kishore Das on Monday reviewed the patient care and other facilities at the Covid-19 hospitals of the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla and the Ashwini Covid-19 Hospital on the premises of the Sambalpur District Headquarter Hospital (DHH).
Das also enquired about the stock of remdesivir injections besides other consumables at the Covid hospitals during the review meeting held at the Sambalpur DHH. This apart, the minister also sought to know about the ICU and oxygen availability in the Covid hospitals. He instructed the officials and from doctors to pull out all stops to provide the best care to the patients in the hospital. ....

Odisha: Doctors demand priority vaccine for family members | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) on Friday urged the state government to give vaccines to family members of healthcare providers, including doctors, on a priority basis.
In a letter to Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, additional chief secretary (health), OMSA has expressed unhappiness for not adding family members of healthcare workers in the priority vaccination programme.
“Doctors and healthcare providers have been fighting this Covid-19 pandemic for a year and a half. Their family members are also getting exposed to the virus. Some family members of healthcare workers have died of Covid-19 as well. But the family members are yet to be considered for vaccination on priority basis,” said Narayana Rout, president of OMSA. ....

Odisha: Medical oxygen plant to come up at Vimsar | Bhubaneswar News

A medical oxygen plant is likely to come up for the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla. Director of Vimsar Lalit Meher said the official process for setting up the plant is underway.
Official sources said currently Vimsar, which has a 225-bed Covid-19 hospital depends upon three plants in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts for refilling. Hospitals of around 6 districts, including Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Balangir and Sonepur also depend upon these plants. But the total capacity of the three plants is 2,400 mega cylinder per day and Vimsar alone requires around 800 mega cylinders a day. And under the condition, if any of the three oxygen plants goes out of order, it will lead to serious trouble for Covid hospitals. ....

BHUBANESWAR: A day after convicted gangster Sheikh Hyder escaped from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack during treatment, an embarrassed Odisha Police on Sunday suspended six constables for dereliction of duty.
The development coincided with DGP Abhay reviewing the progress of the search operation for the don with additional director-general (crime branch) Yeshwant Jethwa, commissioner of police Saumendra Priyadarshi and deputy inspector-general (central range) J N Pankaj here.
Multiple teams have fanned across the state to search for Hyder. Help of police of neighbouring West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh has been sought. His photograph has been sent to neighbouring states and airports. “We have some leads,” Jethwa said. ....
