SUVA, May 10 (Xinhua) Fiji reported on Monday night one locally transmitted COVID-19 case.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, the new case is a woman from Fiji s capital city of Suva, who is considered to have been infected in the community.
Permanent Secretary for Fiji s Health Ministry James Fong said that all the containment areas, including Suva, will remain for another week.
He added that movement across Fiji s main island of Viti Levu is currently restricted for essential purposes only to avoid gatherings.
Currently, Fiji has 140 cases in total, with 101 recoveries, 36 active cases and three deaths. ....

SUVA, May 9 (Xinhua) Fiji confirmed on Sunday three new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and the containment areas in the Suva-Nausori-Lami area will remain for at least another week.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, the new cases are all linked to a man from Lautoka who tested positive on Friday. One of the new cases is the man s wife, another is his daughter, and the third is a primary contact of his wife.
The Permanent Secretary for Fiji s Health Ministry James Fong said that in just over two weeks they have screened more than 317,000 Fijians through their stationary and mobile screening operations. For now, their investigations around new cases in the Suva-Nausori-Lami area indicated those containment areas should be maintained for at least another week. ....

SUVA, May 7 (Xinhua) Fiji reported on Friday night seven new locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, bringing the total tally to 136 in the Pacific island country.
Fiji currently has 49 active cases held in isolation, including nine imported cases, 34 locally transmitted cases and six under investigation for their infection sources.
Fiji has reported 84 recoveries and three deaths from the coronavirus epidemic since it detected the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in March last year.
While stressing that it is now a critical time for Fiji, Permanent Secretary for Health Ministry James Fong said on Friday that the recent cases reported in the country s second largest city Lautoka and capital city Suva showed wider transmission in the country s six containment areas including Suva. ....

SUVA, May 5 (Xinhua) Fiji reported on Wednesday night four new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 125 in the island nation.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, two are imported cases of Fijian soldiers who returned from Sinai later last month.
The third case is a 53-year-old man who was admitted to the Lautoka Hospital for a surgical procedure while the fourth case is a 27-year-old woman from the capital city of Suva.
The Lautoka Hospital, about 24 km north of Nadi, Fiji s third-largest city, is now a tightly contained full-time care facility. ....

According to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC), the vaccination program kicked off on Monday morning in Lautoka and Nadi, and will continue until Friday.
