The Arkansas County Quorum Court met in regular session Tues., Feb. 9, and considered an ordinance for leave policy for county employees who contract COVID-19. The court voted unanimously to give one month of leave to employees for reasons related to the coronavirus, including quarantine, infection, and recovery periods.
According to Arkansas County Judge Eddie Best, the ordinance covers employees through Dec. 31, 2021. If any additional time is needed for recovery, it won’t be included in the policy adopted through the ordinance.
Arkansas County Clerk Melissa Wood reported that, due to a shortage of county employees, there is a substantial carryover of compensated absence time for more than 40 hours of work in a week, specifically for those employed in the sheriff’s office at the county jail. ....
