Presumptive COVID-19 case at Ekati Diamond Mine turns out negative
The case was detected April 6 during testing of employees leaving the mine. A spokesperson for Arctic Canadian Diamond Company confirmed Monday that the case was negative.

A presumptive positive case of COVID-19 at the Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories turned out to be negative.
In a Monday email to CBC News, a spokesperson for the Arctic Canadian Diamond Company confirmed the case was negative.  ....

Arctic Canadian Diamond Company, the new owner of the Ekati diamond mine in Canada’s Northwest Territories, has appointed Wally Schumann (pictured) as a senior adviser on aboriginal and Northern affairs to the board and management.
Schumann is the former Northwest Territories minister of infrastructure and industry, as well as of tourism and investment.
“My appointment strengthens Arctic’s commitments to the Northern communities and helps deliver positive economic results for all parties involved,” Schumann said in a statement.
As previously announced, Rory Moore is serving as the mine’s interim president, while the company searches for a new CEO. He previously served as vice president of exploration for Arctic’s forerunner, Dominion Diamond Mines. ....

Ekati Eyes 5M Carats as Production Resumes

(diamonds.net) - The new owners of the Ekati mine are planning annual production of 5 million carats by 2022 after the deposit spent the past 10 months on care and maintenance. Arctic Canadian Diamond Company took over the operation in December as former owner Dominion Diamond Mines filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2020. Dominion was unable to meet its repayment obligations for debts that had swollen to CAD 1.2 billion ($820 million) when rough sales froze due to Covid-19. Its 40% stake in the Diavik mine remains part of the Dominion bankruptcy proceedings. Arctic, which is made up of three of Dominion’s bondholders DDJ Capital, Brigade Capital and Western Asset Management assumed $70 million of Dominion’s debt and injected $85 million of working capital into Ekati. That enabled the mine to resume operations in late January 2021, with the current plan extending operations to 2028, Arctic’s interim president, Rory Moore, told Ra ....
