Alfred Diete-Spiff, the traditional ruler of the Twon Brass community in Bayelsa, hosts to Agip’s Crude Export Terminal, has fled his kingdom as the protests against the oil company took a turn a bad turn.
The people of the kingdom are protesting against a two-month power outage, caused by Agip.
Diete-Spiff had addressed the protesters and urged them to disperse and leave the premises of Agip, as discussions with the oil firm to resolve the dispute continued in Port Harcourt.
The aggrieved community members, who had blocked access to the oil firm’s offices, shunned the appeal by the traditional ruler and became restive and hauled missiles at him. ....

One person shot as protesters attack monarch over years of neglect by Agip

One person was yesterday allegedly shot when the people of Twon Brass in Brass Local Government Council staged a protest against Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) over a prolonged power outage, refusal to pay indigenous contractors and failure to meet its corporate social responsibility.
According to an eyewitness account, the supposed protest which began on Sunday 16th May 2020 and lasted till Tuesday eventually snow-balled into chaos when some youths hijacked the protest, attacked the Amayanabo of Twon Brass, HRM Alfred Diete-Spiff, while he in a meeting with the protesters to calm frayed nerves.
Tribune Online further learnt that after soldiers attached to the monarch, a former military administrator of old Rivers State, safely took him to his palace, the mob proceeded to the palace, started destroying properties and in the process a soldier in a bid to disperse the mob fired a warning shot that ricocheted off the ground, hitting one of the protesters on the le ....

Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, (nPDP), has berated Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike’s approach to the containment of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic in the State following the non-compliance with established health advisory and regulations, as he toured few places to inaugurate road projects.

No corps member in Cross River tested positive for COVID-19 - NYSC


The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Cross River State has denied reports that thirteen corps members tested positive for COVID-19 in the State.
Mr Enuma Peter, NYSC’s Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations unit, said no corps member currently in the orientation camp in Calabar, tested positive.
“NYSC wishes to assert that presently, no registered 2020 Batch B Stream II corps member in Cross River is COVID-19 positive.
“It is worthy to note that all prospective corps members for the ongoing programme underwent COVID-19 test conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control, which is a condition for admission into any of the 37 camps in the country.” ....
