There will be more sidewalks connecting College Avenue, Rock Spring Drive, and other nearby streets. The Alton Safe Routes to School Phase 2 project will be going out for bid this spring. The cost is expected to run about $421,000, of which a grant will cover $335,000.

Similar work was completed in 2016 with the construction of a combined use path along College Avenue using similar funding opportunities. The grant for the project was awarded by the East-West Gateway Council of Governments. ....
