Alderney Bird Observatory evicted from headquarters

Politicians in Alderney have voted to evict the Alderney Bird Observatory (ABO) from The Nunnery.
The ABO had argued that it was unfair as there was no agreement on the license or tenancy agreement and claimed that politicians do not really know what they are doing . Politicians claimed that the ABO had not upheld the terms of the lease and that a decision was needed to draw to a conclusion one way or another .
Alderney Bird Observatory has been based at the nunnery for six years (ABO).
At a meeting of the Alderney States Assembly politicians voted six to three to evict the ABO from The Nunnery. The observatory has been given three months to move out. Helen McGregor, from Alderney Bird Observatory, said: At the moment I m just reeling from the decision that has been taken, which is a decision to evict us, a sitting tenant who has not in any way breached their agreement. ....

It is hoped that free travel from outside the Bailiwick might resume on 1 July, but this is dependent on Covid-19 case numbers in other jurisdictions, vaccination rates and whether new variants emerge.
Alderney Week team leader Ronnie Cairnduff said the team would be working closely with the authorities to comply with all current restrictions and regulations.
‘Regrettably, at this stage, this means only residents within the Bailiwick bubble will be able to join us and we very much look forward to welcoming them to this 73rd Alderney Week,’ he said. ....

Covid-19 Community Charity Appeal raises £400,000 in Guernsey | Channel

Guernsey s Covid-19 Community Charity Appeal has raised and distributed over £400,000 to local charities.
One of the largest grants awarded - almost £25,000 - was to Safer. The money will pay for an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor to provide additional support as a result of increased domestic abuse victims during lockdown.
The Guernsey Sports Commission was also awarded £25,000 to fund a Sports Recovery Fund.
Some charities received funding for new initiatives during lockdown - Men’s Shed Guernsey ran ‘Shedcast’ sessions for its members to reduce isolation, Les Cotils started its ‘Food for Families’ initiative and the partnership project launched ‘Stay Connected’, which enabled older and vulnerable people to keep in touch with family and services. ....
