Alberta tech employers are keen to hire people with disabilities but need better understanding of key issues: new report Published: April 8th, 2021 By: ICTC
Ottawa, April 7, 2020 Maintaining the momentum of Alberta’s growing digital economy requires tapping every available talent supply stream, including people with disabilities. Employers, however, are often unclear of their responsibilities when reaching out to this segment of the talent pool. Access to accurate, up-to-date, and validated information and resources is needed.
Despite years of economic challenges in Alberta, further exasperated by the impact of COVID-19, the province’s digital economy is growing. In fact, at its height it added more than 30,000 jobs in 2020, and tech talent demand outstrips available supply. This shortfall threatens the continued growth of the digital industry, which is a promising cornerstone of Alberta’s post-pandemic economy. ....

Skills study identifies growth areas for southwest Alberta economy


A new study will help point the way forward for southwestern Alberta’s economic growth. The final results of the Southwest Alberta Regional Skills Study have been released and they show opportunities to enhance skills development throughout the region to support economic growth, particularly during the region’s COVID-19 economic recovery.
The report highlights opportunities for local municipalities, businesses, economic development organizations and post-secondary education institutes to work together on skills and labour market development.
The study, which was organized by eight community partners and received funding from the partner organizations along with both the provincial and federal governments, took feedback from employers and job seekers across the region to better understand the region’s labour market strengths and challenges and the skills needed to ensure a strong and vibrant economy well into the future. ....
