zero star rating by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) is the lowest safety score issued in the
28-year history of the independent authority.
Despite the shock result, representatives for both car companies said there are
“no current plans” to withdraw the Mitsubishi Express or Renault Trafic vans from sale locally.
Both vehicles combined accounted for
about 10 per cent of all new mid-size delivery vans sold in Australia last year.
Previous examples of the worst safety scores include a
one-star rating issued to the previous generation ....

Vehicles aren t created equal, and size isn t a guarantee of escaping a collision without injuries. The Mitsubishi Express is a full-size van, and 2020 marked the return of the Express moniker to Australia and New Zealand. As such, The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) took a deep dive into its crashworthiness, and the numbers aren t good. In fact, they aren t

ANCAP s official rating for the Express is indeed a big goose egg. Its zero-star performance is based on numerous factors lumped into four groups, including Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assist. Of them all, Adult Occupant Protection returned the highest percentage but it was still just 55 percent. ....

Car-maker defends safety credentials of delivery van in wake of shock zero-star ANCAP result
Mitsubishi Australia stands by the safety performance of the Mitsubishi Express, despite the van receiving the first-ever zero-star rating from the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP).
The 2021 Mitsubishi Express is a rebadged version of the Renault Trafic that was awarded a three-star result out of five by ANCAP’s European affiliate Euro NCAP in 2015.
But ANCAP never applied those ratings to the Renault Trafic in Australia, and has now crash-tested the closely-related Mitsubishi Express based on much tougher testing protocols introduced in 2020. ....
