Endangered local pea population being propagated
A collection of endangered plant seeds from the region is currently being propagated in Canberra ready to be returned for planting as part of Central West Local Land Services Progressing the Small Purple-pea project.
Natural Resource Management Officers from Central West Local Land Services travelled to Canberra recently to visit the Australian National Botanic Gardens and National Seed Bank where the Small Purple-pea (Swainsona recta) is being propagated and grown for translocation purposes.
Central West Local Land Services Senior Land Services Officer, Tanya Muccillo said seed was collected from the Central West region at the end of 2020 and taken back to Canberra to be checked for viability, to store a portion in the National Seed Bank, and to propagate some plants for replanting back into local populations over the next three years. ....

TWO critically endangered Orange-bellied Parrots were sighted on Hindmarsh Island last week as part of a Limestone Coast Landscape Board-backed parrot identification workshop.
SA Orange-bellied Parrot regional coordinator Bob Green spotted the birds, believed to be the first South Australian sighting of the species in eight years.
“The most recent confirmed sighting of an Orange-bellied Parrot was in 2013, so this was certainly an exciting and important find,” Mr Green said.
The parrots breed along the plains of Tasmania’s South West Wilderness World Heritage Area, with juveniles being banded for identification purposes. ....

Upper Mooki Landcare Inc is celebrating the completion of the Upper Mooki Rehydration Project by hosting an event “Creating Resilient Landscapes to Secure our Farming Future” at the heritage listed Windy Station Woolshed, Pine Ridge via Quirindi, Thursday 13 May 2021, 9am – 4pm.
This has been an exciting and visionary partnership project across the Upper Mooki Catchment, supported by North West Local Land Services, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program and Catchment Action NSW.
The project brought together 11 landholders on 13 properties across 28,000 hectares, implementing a range of strategies to support landscape rehydration, resilience and regeneration. ....
