Scott Morrison plans to put the heat on Victoria s Dan Andrews and other state premiers to stop locking down their entire state with a $500 disaster payment that will only be paid in the covid hot spots he declares.
The divide and conquer approach to state lockdowns has been confirmed by senior government sources and it s designed to tackle bed-wetting premiers that the Morrison Government believes are too trigger happy with the lockdown gun.
Senior government ministers have confirmed that the pandemic payment has a two-pronged purpose: to help vulnerable workers, but also to put the heat on state premiers and officials including the Victorian chief medical officer Brett Sutton who remain committed to what amounts to a zero tolerance approach to covid. ....

The Morrison Government is considering cash disaster payments to vulnerable Victorians left high and dry and without an income as a result of the lockdown.
Despite rejecting calls for the reintroduction of the JobKeeper style wage subsidy, senior government figures have confirmed various targeted options using existing payment systems are being war-gamed.
One option is a change to the eligibility criteria for existing pandemic payments that offers up to $1500 for people forced to quarantine for two weeks to more casuals left out of work. However, that option would require legislation.
Currently, the disaster relief cash is only available if you re forced to quarantine and as a result you can t work, not simply for lockdowns. ....

The Australian Government has extended the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) and Disaster Recovery Allowance (DRA) to support those heavily affected by Tropical Cyclone Seroja in Western Australia with over $300,000 paid to cyclone affected residents to date.
People in the Carnamah, Chapman Valley, Greater Geraldton, Mingenew, Morawa, Perenjori and Three Springs local government areas can now access the support package.
Minister for Emergency Management David Littleproud said the package provided assistance to those who had suffered significant losses due to Tropical Cyclone Seroja. ....
