More travel industry figures criticise government's $1.2bn support package – Travel Weekly

The federal government’s recently-announced support package for Australia’s tourism industry has drawn further criticism from senior figures.
Joel Katz, managing director for Australasia at the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), said that while the
new stimulus measures are a step forward, there needs to be a broader focus on the tourism economy, including tangible progress on the restart of cruising to act as an impetus for hard-hit businesses that rely on the sector.
“While the government’s package may assist some of the thousands of Australian cruise specialist travel agents impacted by travel restrictions after the end of JobKeeper, it provides only limited relief while little progress is made towards the resumption of cruising,” he said. ....

TTF urges federal government to implement $7.7bn tourism rescue package – Travel Weekly

Australia’s Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) is demanding the federal government urgently consider targeted industry support to the tune of $7.74 billion.
The core of the rescue package, which TTF has dubbed the ‘Tourism Employee and Asset Maintenance (TEAM) program’, is a proposal for targeted assistance of between $1,000 to $1500 per fortnight for each employee of eligible businesses with a 30 per cent to 50 per cent or more downturn in their 2019 turnover.
The TEAM rescue package proposal has been valued at $7.74 billion, covering the period from 1 April 2021 to 31 December 2021, and reviewed quarterly.
If this program is put in place, Australia’s tourism industry could regrow to 75 per cent of its 2019 employment figures and save 318,000 jobs, according to the TTF. ....

New Zealand’s Prime Minister has confirmed the country’s national cabinet has agreed to let Aussies travel quarantine-free to New Zealand from early next year.
Jacinda Ardern told a press conference that was streamed live on her Facebook page that while a date hasn’t been announced for a two-way travel ‘bubble’, she believes it will be in the first quarter of next year.
“It is our intention to name a date for the commencement of trans-Tasman quarantine free travel in the new year, once remaining details are locked down,” she said.
“But I think, for now, New Zealanders by and large appreciate the approach of the government to ensure that we are not taking on an unnecessary risk as we’re going into the summer. ....
